Adjusting bandwidth on a router if possible

Hi folks,

Im currently on Virgin Media 20Mb and its being shared amongst myself and the other flat mate. However she uses torrents and it impacts my connection. I know how to stop it on her side by limiting upload/download speeds on the client, but all I want to do is to limit her to at least 10Mb max if you get me overall. Its a Netgear WRG614v9 but I dont see anything that could do that, theres no QOS by what I can see either. If anyone has any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Bar replacing the router with something which has QOS or changing the torrent client settings there's not much you can do.

Depends what price range good is in! You can get quite silly!

I would say £50-60 sounds right

You could look at linksys or the draytek 2800/2600 do QOS.

and Dlink

Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 stick DD-WRT on it and it's a nice bit of kit.

Thanks very much, that looks good! This custom firmware you speak of, is it a simple router upgrade like official firmware or do you have to do several of them? I looked at the model on the site of DD-WRT and theres a few of them thats all

Pretty simple to do, it's similar to performing a stock firmware upgrade, without the fancy GUI's. Reboot router, run tftp server on pc and upload to router whilst in boot cycle. The instructions are pretty good.

Mine is running DD-WRT v23 SP2 standard version.
