Does my Master Socket need a professional rewire?

I have read through the "cost of master socket thread", but the following is not answered.

I have a Master Socket (BT piper logo) with removable lower half front face plate.
However, there are no wires attaching to the back of this faceplate, but the extension downstairs in the kitchen still works?

Is this right? Should the extensions be wired in through the section of the master socket I am not *supposed* to touch?

I have removed the ringwire from the extension - but there is no equivalent in the master socket?

My stats are OK and I don't suffer dropouts or unnatural slow speeds - so should I just leave well alone?

No that doesn't sound right.

Any extensions should be wired to the back of the removable faceplate so they get disconnected when the TEST socket is revealed/used.

your wiring is incorrect. Chances are there's a junction box somewhere and possibly another master socket (if no other master then the ring wire isn't connected to anything).

Yarwell and b4dger are right. Something's definitely awry somewhere.

Question is, how best to get it sorted. Might fall under "regularisation" of the phone wiring, as something appears to be wrong on Openreach's side of the master socket. That's assuming someone hasn't managed to get their hands on a pukka BT master socket to create a duplicate master, and there's another "true" master socket lurking behind a cupboard.

I.e. does this mean I could potentially get fixed for free. I have only been in the house 18 months and do not believe I have another master socket or junction box anywhere (although I might now have to empty the cupboard under the stairs!).

So what do I do?

The house used to have a DACS line, but I have ripped all the extra wiring out of the inside of the house.
