should I be syncing higher?

hI, I currently sync at 3774 with att 49db and snr target of 9db

Should I be higher with those stats?

On an adsl nation master, identical on the test socket

I'm on a 51db line currently also on a 9db Target SNR - sync'd at 4608kbps

So yes you should be doing a bit better. Have you checked what you get using the TEST socket - just in case!

Sync during day light hours to get the highest connection.

I used to use a DG834v2 and moved to a Broadcom chipset router which improved thing for me - see link in signature for details.

Yes I tried the test socket before buying the adsl master, still just syncs at 3774 , I fitted the master anyway to tidy things up, seems to connect always at 3774 with the master, sometimes it would connect lower without the faceplate,(couple of extensions,new house)

Im having a simular issue - thinking i should be syncing higher.

I have a Attenuation of 63db and a noise margine of 6db and i am connecting at around 1100 to 1200kbps.

Ive recently move my router a netgear dg834gv3 to the master BT socket (which is in the kitchen next to a electric oven) and i was getting a speed of 500kbps which was worse then my extenion off an extension!. I used to get 1200-1300kbps using the extension socket. I also upgraded the firmware to the latest version before i moved it and didnt check what speeds that gave me.

I rebooted the router the correct way, installed an adsl nation filtered faceplace for the master bt socket and tried a new rj11 -rj11 lead and managed to get it up to 1100 - 1200kbps.

I have been using the tools and information on Kitz.co.uk and it seems i should be getting 1700-1900 for my Attenuation level. it might not seem like much of an upgrade but with such low speeds anything i can get helps!

I have also disconnected the ring wire and have plugged it into the BT test socket - altho i did use a micro filter should it be straight bt socket to modem and no filter?

b4dger - read that article on Thomson Speedtouch 585 sorting out issues for you would this apply to my situation as well? I think my BB Supplier is offering this rotuer as an upgrade however not sure what version.

Is there anything else i can do to get the most out of my line?

63db is a much longer line - some routers don't report any higher than that!

Using the test socket via a filter is fine (most people don't have a BT > RJ11 lead).

It certainly wouldn't hurt to try another router is you can get hold of one or perhaps borrow one?

I seemed to think that most routers could show up to 63.5db so didnt think mine would be higher then that! Is there a way of finding out what my actual db value is?

Ive asked my BB supplier to turn off Interleaving so might get a bit faster speed at the cost of data loss

2Wire routers seem to give a lot more info if you can try one of those.

I would have thought on a long line like yours interleaving would already be on.

Nothing wrong with trying your connection with Interleaving off, as you can always get them to turn it back on if it doesn't help. However, don't be surprised if turning it off make things much worse, especially on a long line such as yours. For the increased data loss could effectively drop your actual usable throughput significantly lower than with Interleaving on because so much of the bandwidth is being wasted on retransmitting corrupted data. I have seen this on a number of long lines where there has been significantly better real data throughput with Interleaving on than off. Though of course, if you are lucky enough to have a long line that is fairly clean of noise it might help.

FYI: Most routers only display up to 63 or 63.5db for attenuation, irrespective of what the actual attenuation is. Thus any time you see your router reporting a value of 63 or 63.5 it means that you can't rely on the results given by ADSL2/ADSL2+ estimators when you feed those values into them as you don't actually know for sure what your real attenuation is.
