This I know... what about sites that log you in via SSL but switch you to non-SSL once that is complete that may have session checking enabled?
As the initial login part is done securely, like for a forum, or something; there is no need to keep you in a SSL session for the rest of it.
If you were to put 80 and 443 via static connections the whole 'load balancing' effort it pretty much useless if that is it's primary aim.
