Replacing old phone cable inside wall.

Hi, I've been looking at my old telephone wiring, to see if I can speed my internet up, I know it hasen't been changed for atleast 20 years

When I follow the cable coming from the poll it disappears through the wall, when I look inside theres an internal cable, not the same as the one outside, that reappers from the wall about 2 meters in from my front door.

So would anyone have any idea whats going on between the external and internal cable behind the wall?

I was thinking about trying to pull the external cable out from outside and rerouting it with some new cable for inside, would this be ok or is there something behind there that it needs.

Also the phone cable crosses right next to where the electrical cables are coming up from under the house, would this cause interference.

Somewhere there should be a junction box where the drop cable (cable from the pole) and the internal wiring join. Are you sure there is not one? They can be quite small.

BTW the wiring before the Master Socket is BTOR�s and you should not make alterations to it.

The joint could be in the loft.

The outside cable runs down the wall on the outside of my house and goes in beside my front door.

The joint between the cables must be inside the wall.

Inside the junction box I assume it would be a simple joint nothing else.

If so it should be simple to reroute the cable with a new junction box and cable for inside.

Is there any very high quailty cable and junction boxes you can recommend?

Im trying to improve my ADSL2+ connection, im getting about 3.7 mb down at the moment.

Well between your first post and this one I am confused as to exactly what you are asking and also telling us about the cable routing. Notwithstanding that however is the vexed issue of the external cable not being your responsibility. You are only responsible for any internal wiring AFTER the main BT box. If you can be clearer as to what you are trying to achieve I am sure there are people that can advise you.

The only time I have seen this sort of thing is when the door and frame have been replaced. The door fitters chase out the wall and bury the joint box, and the fault was at this joint, so the easy way out was to replace the cable and start again.

The door and frame were replaced awhile ago, but the cable emerges from the skirting further in my house, maybe it could be under the floor.

Right lets start at the beginning. When the line was first installed, the external line terminated in a joint box no doubt screwed to the original door frame, and the internal wiring lead from it. When the new door was fitted (does it have a metal frame?) the helpful fitters have buired the lot, so now you cannot get to the box to check anything. I suggest you involve Openreach to rerun the external line.

That would be very helpful of the door installers!! I agree with SystemX - time to enrol the assistance of BT OpenReach
