Capped IP Profile? Orange Home BB

Hi all, looking for some advice on this ongoing issue with my Orange BB supply.

Previously my modem had been syncing at around the 4Mb mark (about right given my distance from the exchange). However recently the sync speed has dropped to 1Mb and will not increase no matter what I do. I have replaced filters and disconnected home the extension line - still no improvement.

My line stats are as follows (according to my router):

Data Rate (kbps) up/down 604/1020
SNR (db): up/down 24.4/29.5
Attenuation (db): 49

I have been on to Orange and I explained how recently I had to keep restarting my router frequently. I know that they will interpret this as me loosing connection and will think that my line cannot support the speeds they are providing me with and have capped my speed. They don't seem to want admit that this is the case and keep saying how "this is all your line can support". But givien my high SNR value for the current sync speed I find this unlikely?

I don't know how they arrive at the "maximum speed your line can support" value. Can someone shed any light on this? I'm guessing they monitor your connection and it's stability over time?

looks like you are on Orange LLU with those speeds. Tried a different router ? You should indeed be getting more speed / less margin.

....as Yarwell suggests, you are on an LLU connection, so what you are seeing is not a capped IP profile, in the BTw sense.

From the high downstream SNR, I would suggest that the sync has been hard capped, possibly in response to some instability.... speak with Orange and ask them to remove the cap. (Good luck)

From my experience it takes two weeks of constant connection before the synch rate will increase (in my case from 2Meg after a DSLAM fault at the exchange back up to 4Meg with a similar 49dB attenuation) and I now have 10.8/28.5 SNR. However if you're on one of their up to 20Meg packages, then there appears to be a well known problem with their Dynamic Line Management getting many people stuck on a 1 Meg profile for many weeks and longer, and the only route appears to be to contact by e-mail their executive office ([email protected] marked fao Jonathan) to outline the problem & request a manual setting with a daytime contact no. : see the huge Downgraded thread on the OrangeProblems site (do a google search) website in the up to 20Meg posts. Yes, thanks for the replies! It's as I thought. They have probably done it intentionally so that they don't need to serve out as much bandwidth. (Didn't anticipate the load).

Tech support have no clue about the problem. I was told that the 10 day stabilisation period doesn't take into account your sync speed at your modem!? When it obviously does!
