New BT Line?

[link to this post]

Having had a look at a poster within this forum I see that BT were offering free installation of a line (don't mind tying myself into BT for 12months).

In reply to a post by distantdave:
BT are also offering a free new line at the moment - the main reason for posting is to ask if this is worth pursuing to see if I can get a shorter line?

http://www.calls.bt.com/ppc/callpackages/?keyword=bt...

So I was thinking with my existing overhead cable looking dodgy would it be worth me getting a new line installed or will BT simply utilise the second pair within the overhead, so in effect I will be routed through the same "old" line.

Also I went through the application process and applied for a new line to be installed at my address however it calculated out at £124.99 for the engineers visit?

So the line installation won't be free as such? If the point could be answered in the original part of my post it will make my mind up whether its even bothering pursuing.

Many thanks.

Just spoke to BT, fortunately someone from UK that knew what they were on about, they confirmed they'll just use the same line, so not going to make any difference

The point for asking about a new line was due to being cod mw2 and teamspeak last night and the voice quality on teamspeak 3 for me was terrible and on the couple of occasions that the game nominated me as host the teamspeak 3 connection blocked out completely! Although for the other 5/6 users on teamspeak, they were not having an issue.

I am quite a way from the exchange and do get about 2mb down 0.5 up, however should it do this (bearing in mind I have nothing else running in the background and monitor this with tbb meter on the second monitor) It almost cuts out voice communication on ts3 when I am nominated as host (also worth noting that everyone moans in the server&I have to disconnect/reconnect if the servers not full!).

Generally web browsing and internet speeds are still okay though, getting my full through put, I take it its the quality of the line which is lacking given the 59db downstream attenuation?

Any help?
