Broadband Max versus fixed Speed line advice please

Not sure where to post this but:
I have a poor BT line, been through all the options of wiring checked in the house, testing from master socket etc etc but the fact is the line to the exchange - and been BT checked and they admit - is not good. Attenuation 55db SNR 12db which can drop to 6db and lower when connection is lost..

When I changed ISP couple of years ago they started me off on a fixed 2mbps connection which just kept disconnecting, so it was changed to a fixed 1mbps and since then the connection has been steady at 940kbps down and holds ok with only a few disconnections barely noticeable with my use. However, from the router stats I can see that it loses connection frequently rarely going more than 3 days and sometimes 2 or 3 times throughout a 24 hour period.

ISP is now moving everyone onto Broadband Max and doing away with the fixed line connections. My ISP say I should see an improvement and possibly get speed improvement up to 1.4mb. But from what I've read on these forums I understand that when connection is lost on BB max it has to retrain itself starting from a low point, so my question and concern is if that happens I might actually see my down speed become consistently lower than the 940kbps I get now?

Anyone give me advice here? I'm happy with my ISP and as there is no alternative to using the BT line (no cable here) if I change ISP likely to come up with the same problem eventually. On contacting ISP support I just get the standard email reply about ".... striving to supply best quality products blah blah..." but nothing to concrete.

It will be BT's IP Profile system that could be the killer for you

With fixed speed ADSL you aren't affected by loss of sync etc. you'll just get your normal service when you reconnect. If you have a low connection speed with ADSL Max then BT will put to on a go slow!

You'll need to re-sync at a higher speed and then maintain that for up to 5 days for your profile to recover.

You'll have to wait and see to see how things work out.
I was with someone yesterday on a 56db line connected at 17xx and their service was fine.

I'm on a 51db line connected around 53xx with a 4500 profile - so things could work out better for you when you move.

Along with optimising your wiring, router choice can make a big difference.

Hmmmm.....that's what I thought happens. As I see it then I doubt if it will stay connected long enough to maintain a decent profile and will be pemanantly slow. I suppose I just have to see what happens and try and think of an alternative way of getting on the internet if things are bad. So much for everyone having a decent internet speed and of course we're all happy to pay the 50p a month tax!

You might find that things are better than you expect.

I used to have a (remote) fixed speed (Home 250) line with Zen, before BT withdrew the service.

I did not look forward to the change - but it is now quite stable (and faster as well).

The odd disconnection should not affect your profile.

You assuming that Broadband Max = BT's ADSL Max? It could just be the name of a package from OP's ISP, which he doesn't tell us.

Perhaps I read some of his previous posts and made an educated guess
