[link to this post]

Hi
Please help, I have tried to help my neighbour, she has rubbish internet, She is has Netgear DG834 plugged in to adslnation mastersocket (I fitted to try and improve) and this is all she gets.
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 480 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 59 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 12 db 13 db

although the download speed was only half that before adslnation box thingy fitted.
thanks

Does seem a bit poor. For a 59dB attenuation you'd probably expect over 2Mbps.

Has the ring wire been removed? Are those stats from the test socket inside modern BT master sockets.

See http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php?type=html

The target SNR margin seems to have been raised in 2 steps from 6 to 12dB. If the line is stable that should drop back to 6 in the coming weeks with a rise in sync for each drop in target margin.

which adslnation faceplate did you fit - the XTE-2005 ? Any extensions wired off before the master socket ie that keep working when the faceplate is unplugged.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

She should contact her ISP to get the SNR (Noise) margin reduced to 6dB.

Something very odd about the attenuation figures. 59dB down & 15.5dB up

If the 15.5 dB up is correct then I would have expected the down figure to be 30 to 40dB range.

I was on 59/60db and managed to get anything up to 1mb,with profiling, via llu that raised to little over 2mb, bt profiling will really have an impact if the line is intermittant and is probably why the connection is poor. What exchange are they connected too? if they can get llu that would help. Also what version of the dg834? theres v1-4 & the gt i think.

Hi
No chance of llu (cromer exchange), the vouter is DG834G ver 3. I spoke to the neighbours ISP, which is titan/Vispa, but their internet has always been poor, Abs said the problem is with the line /BT and "nothing to do with the ISP" lolol.
thanks for your help.
best wishes

Not too much further round the coast from sunny lowestoft where i am then lol, oh well best thing you can do is try and get the connection as stable as you can, shame the router wasn't the v4 or gt like i've got, as then you could manually tweak the snr to try and get to the next ip profile.
