Hi
I'm trying to help my elderly neighbours off of dial-up into the brave new world of broadband! They have signed up with Plusnet (with standard Plusnet 4-port router) on up to 8Mbps. The Plusnet estimate was 4Mbps but after the initial 10-day period, they only get about 650Kbps.
It turns out that they have another phone extension which did not have a microfilter (yes, I did ask previously ...) so I have added that today.
The BT speed test shows the IP profile is set at 750Kbps and the BT Availability checker says they would get 1Mbps
The line stats reported by the router when connect to the normal socket are:
ITU-T G.992.1; downstream: 1344 kbit/s, upstream: 448 kbit/s; output Power Down: 16.0 dBm, Up: 11.5 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 49.0 dB, Up: 29.0 dB; snr Margin Down: 15.0 dB, Up: 23.0 dB
When connected to the test socket in the master socket:
ITU-T G.992.1; downstream: 2720 kbit/s, upstream: 448 kbit/s; output Power Down: 17.5 dBm, Up: 11.5 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 48.0 dB, Up: 29.0 dB; snr Margin Down: 15.5 dB, Up: 23.0 dB
I think that tells me the internal wiring is poor. But why would the downstream results in the test socket be so much less than the estimated 4Mbps? (FWIW, I get 4Mbps two doors away)
What else can you glean from those stats?
What should I do next? (apart from mailing PN support which I did earlier)
Thanks!
