Fibre to the Cabinet - How is this Implemented

[link to this post]

I live in a Cheshire village, whose BT pavement cabinets were installed by the GPO. They have cast iron doors.
My estimate is that most of the street wiring in Poynton is over 50 years old.

BT Infinity will appear one day. It is due in nearby Macclesfield in September. I shall remain an O2 LLU customer (I still have no idea why BT send someone round with the VDSL transceiver, and quote an up to 3 hour installation), but will the street cabinets change, before English Heritage list them?

Will the presence of fibre cause connections to be remade between my property and the exchange, as a non-fibre customer?

No. FTTC is being provided as an overlay to the existing copper services which will remain as is until an end user/ISP request a change to the FTTC service, at which point the line is intercepted at the cabinet, routed through the FTTC cabinet , and then back to onto the copper line to the end user.
