Problem with sync speed since power cut

[link to this post]

Hello Guys
I have a strange issue and wondering if anyone can shed some light on it,
I currently have two broadband connections from Sky And O2 on two seperate phone lines, I have recently had a power cut last wednesday night which the whole town went without power for an hour, since then on both my boradband connections i'am only syncing at half the speed, ie before both connections would syncs at 12000 but now im lucky to get 8000 .

I have checked all the cabling which is fine, used the bt master sockets / removed front plate to get to the test socket with out any extentions, listned for noice on the line, changed micro filters, nothing appears to be wrong no matter what i do they will not sync above this speed.

here is the lind stats from my netgear dg834p router on o2
DownStream Connection Speed 7552 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1520 kbps
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7552 kbps 1520 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.5 db 19.8 db
Noise Margin 6.2 db 6.0 db

any advice would be greatly appricated.

many thanks Ryan

Whatever caused the power cut may have put a surge on your mains.

Have you checked out both routers for damage?

On easy test is to swap the routers on the two lines to see if the fault stays with the router or the line.

Line Two:- EntaNet - DrayTek Vigor 2600

Are any of your neighbours affected in the same way?

The stats look fair for ADSL. To get 12Mbps you must have been ADSL2+ before - can you see the modulation type reported anywhere - I'm betting it's plain G.DMT / G.992.1 - what I can't explain is why that should be so as you say trying different routers hasn't altered it.

All I can suggest is that you call the ISP and hope you get somebody with opposable thumbs.

Don't think you can get a 1520 Kbps Upstream connection using plain G.DMT / G.992.1

DownStream Connection Speed 7552 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1520 kbps
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7552 kbps 1520 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.5 db 19.8 db
Noise Margin 6.2 db 6.0 db

It could be that there is already an open PSTN fault on the line?

Try your number in the BT online fault checker - it'll tell you if there already is.

If it's a broadband rather than a voice fault, your ISP is responsible.
If there is a voice fault, ring your voice provider and don't mention broadband.

..if there were, then calling the voice provider would have found this..

sounds like something electrical has gone tits-up withe the power cut.

I didn't spot that - max of 1Mbps only on plain ADSL so it can't be that.

Yeap, if it affects your neighbours also, then it will be a fault possibly at the DP. What were your stats before the power cut? Has your attenuation changed at all? If it affects both your lines then i'm pretty sure the ISP are not at fault here.

Answering that may immediately pinpoint the problem..... But he seems a little coy about it.

I've noticed it's been asked a few times and ignored each time. I'm guessing it does, and if it does it's a fault on BT's end

Impossible. The attenuation is too high.

Yep.... About 9M max on ADSL2+ and about 7M max on ADSL.

Possibly the line stats have changed since the power cut? I wish the OP would give a little more information if he's looking for assistance
