8mb so slow you can eat a rib eye steak quicker!

[link to this post]

Hi all

Have some issues that hope can be answered here (did post elsewhere but only on site today!) so need to solve...

Has anyone had any speed issues with the livebox 1 with firmware 5.10 UK ???

We have got a few clients using the prehistoric livebox and it has been nothing but a pain in the backside, we have swapped out liveboxes, tried older firmware and the BT fed lines are spot on with faceplates etc etc

Here are some figures if anyone can enlighten us further before we pop over yet another email direct to the exec office :?

Cheers

Below figures are on "upto" 8mb orange plan, about 1.4km from exchange, the desktop is connected by cat5 direct, the actual speeds are:

? is the line on eusc - yes we think so...

more info - 3 of 5 client lines as far as we know are restricted in this manner, below is a new test using speedtester, we have not run this before on the line we are on right now, but as you can see... not good  seems the exec office may have to sort a few more issues out again as they are the only ones that seem to act and know who to boll*ck!

So what do you think, time for a call as the client is paying for upto 8mb and not getting nowhere near it!

Have you tried any speedtests while plugged into the test socket inside the master plate?

Edit: More importantly, what are the line stats in this case?

yep, the btspeedtester results displayed are at master, we think it is ORANGE restricting the ip profile, what do you all think?

cheers

The line itself is going to sit on a 4000 profile (assuming BT from your post and the upload speed).

Results of 2.50~Mb is not poor for the IP profile rate.

Without being devils advocate, the client is getting up to 8Mb, but will never get more than 4~Mb on the current line sync, and 2.50Mb~ would be considered in the area of average to good.

ISP cannot restrict the IP profile on the up to 8Meg products

Current IP Profile of 2500Kbps, on a sync of 4704Kbps, this suggests you connected at less than 4000Kbps at some point in the last five days.

Has the ISP explained that the IP profile can take up to five days to recover from a low setting.

Time for you to monitor the sync rate of the livebox over a period of time, and see if it is actually varying at all. Suspect you are getting one or more drop outs in the evenings.

cheers matt & andy

we will monitor it, but all stinks of something like rotten oranges LOL

might chuck another router on to see if makes any difference in a few days if the speed is still [censored]

is there any truth (technically) with the livebox 1.2's that if it is hardwired (cat5 connecton to router) it messes with the firmware written in le french at inventel and slows the whole thing down?

Never heard that rumour - but you look to have the usual, flaky sync speed causing IP profile to not be great issue.

"Up to" are the operative words! It depends on line length. At your attenuation, you won't get more than about 6.5 Meg Sync ever (so up to 20 Meg products are useless to you).

The speedtests are all good for your current IP Profile of 2500K, but you need to wait for it to increase towards your current Sync of 4704K. Keep doing BT speedtester and keep an eye on it. No need to bother with other speedtests; they don't tell us anything more. Better to report router stats and hope Sync will also increase due to previous disconnections.

Orange don't control the IP Profile; BT does, as you are on ADSL Max.

Dunno, but other Orange users are using the Livebox and getting consistent readings as other routers. I doubt your problem lies with Orange or the Livebox, but the latter can easily checked out by trying another router like a Netgear.
