Line Speed has Dropped - Post Office Customer

[link to this post]

I really do not understand what has happened with my line. When I first connected to Broadband I was informed by BT that my line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 7.5Mbps but within the last week it now states that my Line can only currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 3Mbps.

I used to have a steady synch rate of 8126 but over the past week its went up and down at any time of the day. I had a BT Open Reach Engineer visit my property approx 11 days ago and he found a fault on the pole outside the property which he repaired, but since his visit I cannot seem to get any download speeds faster than approx 3.4mbps. Although when he was here he stated my line was capable of downloading at approx 7.5mbps, In fact the line was tested by him, it was also tested by another BT Open Reach Engineer approx 2 years ago and he also tested my line and he also stated my line was capable of downloading @ 7.5mbps.

Therefore something has went wrong recently?? Can anyone on this forum give me any answers.

I have contacted the Post Office and they informed me the problem/fault had been fixed by the BT Engineer, but I cannot understand why my line was capable of supporting 7.5mbps but now its only capable of supporting 3mbps and I cannot get any answers from the Post Office.

If ADSL router was connected when the fault was present and being fixed, this may have made the computers think the line was unstable and slowed you down to avoid annoying resyncs.

Line stats from the router are needed to say more.

I again contacted the Post Office to ask why I used to be able to download at approx 7mb but now I can only download at 3mb, unfortunately they cannot give me the answers, he suggested it could be the line, but my line was renewed 6 years ago after BT found a fault, my next door neighbour can get 7.5mbps and my line goes to the exchange the exact same way but for me only 3mbps??

Your first pic shows your IP profile has been set to 3000kbps (presumably your modem had a low sync event because of noise on the line). The IP profile will automatically rise (2-5 days) to reflect your current sync rate (provided you don't have another low sync event).

That suggests you are having periodic low sync events. See http://www.robertos.me.uk/html/bt_ip_profiles.html for a description of BT's IP profile system.

You could try using RouterStats to monitor the situation. Seehttp://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm

Although there is some type of problem with my line and I really have not got the answers to fix it as I am not technical minded and have no idea what to do.
