Just connected my stats to extension socket in dining room are:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2243 kbps 632 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.0 db 39.5 db
Noise Margin 3.4 db 6.3 db

That is with a forced adsl2 modulation and 20% snr bringing my snr from 9db to 3.5! So proably will need to bring snr down by 40% to let it sit around 6db.

Would bt fit a new nte faceplate free if the old one isnt or if its working would i need to pay?

I think having that added would help no end increasing my speed, the length of line from entry to dining room is probably 20m or so around a livin/dining room.

BT will fit new NTE5 for £25+VAT unless registered disabled

Not sure what you expect, as attenuation and speed is about all you would expect. Might be fun at night time with just 3dB of noise margin

When it appears as a line item in BT's charge sheet and specifically excludes the visit charge I'll believe it.

Until then, no! A comment on a forum by "BT care" doesn't really cut it as far as this goes.

i dont know where you are with this but if you are going to attempt to fit a master i would pick out the spare green/black pair in there....trace that back to the cable but and if you find that the other pair is a white orange that will be the feed.

you really should get bt/openreach out..an internal shift is somewhere around 80. the cost of repairing it if you make a mess will be considerably higher

The BT business 2wire 2700HGV will normally sync at 3dB - the trick is to time it correctly. They can hold sync with a margin as low as -0.7dB (the extreme I have seen) and maybe a fraction lower. I am currently running at 0.1 dB and will get up to around 5.5 / 6 dB during the day. Currently I have been synced for 37 days.

This issue has been raised many times.
I have suggested before that TBB try to get a definitive answer which can be sticky'd and this thread was as close as things got as far as I'm aware.

BT_Care are hopefully an official source but as the thread shows it wasn't easy to get the same answer from them twice!

Thanks for the post, I have got a BT business hub with the singtel firmware on it for any isp so will give that a try, I am what you would call a router wh0re lol, been through at least half a dozen in last house and evenually got my sync speed from under 1mb to 2.5mb.

That wasnt just the router that was also going LLU too, I am thinking at this place tho I don't need bt points all over the house just in one room, so thinking about locating the main BT point in the hall way to lose all the extensions.

Gotta go dig out that HGV2700 now! Oh no, the piles of things around the place, you know what it's like when you first move in

Thanks for the link, I don't qualify for free, but don't mind paying £25, I am going to call them as someone who has just moved into the property and explain that the socket needs to be moved over to a newer one.
