ADSL Modulation query G.992.1 and/or annex A

[link to this post]

Hi,
Can someone please let me know what type of ADSL Modulation should be displayed in a router for plain old ADSL on a Market 1 exchange please?

i.e. Should it show "G.992.1" or "G.992.1 annex A" ?

Thanks.

Yes, either of those. Annex A means ADSL over POTS.

Could be either and will probably depend on the specific router/firmware.
The 'Annex A' suffix simply means it's POTS (rather than ISDN - Annex B) specific.

Thanks for the replies - I'm trying to work out if my 'situation' has changed so knowing it may be either hasn't helped much smile

If I manage to force plain G.992.1 can/will this work differently than G.992.1 annex A ?

EDIT: I'm trying to work out why I'm having UPstream problems. Low UPsync and SNRM...

you haven't understood.....

G992.1 is the modulation

Annex A means it is on an analogue phone line. Annex B would be an ISDN phone line. There isn't a version without an Annex, though some GUIs don't state the Annex.

Fair enough thanks -
Just wanted to confirm there is no difference between "G.992.1" and "G.992.1 annex A" only reporting differences in the router/firmware.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymmetric_Digital_Subs... lists them separately so it wasn't clear to me.

Any tips on why my UPstream SNR has gone from 18.5db with normal 448 sync to around 7db and sync anywhere between 94kbps and the current 352kbps ? (DL sync/TSNR is still normal)

I had my dropwire replaced on Monday (slightly damaged) and all seemed well.
But things have gone downhill since. It seems BT performed some type of 'reset' even though my download TSNR was still ok at 6db but I noticed that Interleaving was turned off when the reset was performed so I'm just trying to check what else may have been trodden on before going through all the pain of getting a line fault looked at (again)! smile

I suspect you have a dodgy joint affecting the lower (upstream) frequencies only, if upstream sync went down the pan when the dropwire was replaced.

I always 'wet my pants' when BT visits are involved frown

When BT visited on Monday within 5 minutes he said "its your wiring"! *kerching*!

I have a filtered faceplate with everything as clean as I can make it. After I politely asked him to put his kit into the TEST socket to see what result he gets - he changed his mind and said "the problem is outside"!

If it is a joint then it looks like it might only be showing up depending in the weather.
Normal sync/stats on startup this morning! (bright and dry)

There is no DLM on the 20CN upstream, i.e. what the product you appear to be on.

dampness getting into a joint / insulation ? Get the WD40 out smile
