Using the bt_test_user and startup_domain, what's good/bad

I'd be interested in knowing what the results should be if using these testing methods. I've seen some searched posts but no-one actually says what should be a good or bad result indication.

If you put in login details for:- bt_test@startup_domain and use test for password or leave blank.

If no line problems what is result?

If router light indicates a block or locks up what problem does that mean?

Similarly for bt_test_user@theuserisp.

If no connect light shows, what problem is that?

If there is a connect shown should there be ability to ping or go to sites?

do you get an IP address is the first test, using these logins you can see if you are allocated an address when you aren't getting one through the correct login.

if @startup_domain works you know the line is OK
if @isp works you know you're mapped to the right ISP

what is a "connect" light ? sounds router specific to me.

You may be anle to ping a gateway and perhaps go to www.bt.net or speedtester.bt.com but other than that the test logins go nowhere.

The connect light as indicating there is a login and associated traffic -distinct from the sync- I think would be fairly universal, no?

Anyway, the fail for startup, are there too many "line" faults to hint at what's causing that or would it be localised to the user-exchange area? And if the second test did work ok straight after seeing the first problem?
