Adsl faceplate issue

Hi All

Not sure if anyone can help but after searching most the day I cant seem to find or understand what my problem is.

Basicallty the internet was working fine as always then the today we noticed the phone had no dial tone, was about to ring BT but then I thought id take the adsl faceplate off and plug direct to the main socket inside and then the phone worked.

When I took the plate off i wasnt very careful and i think some of the wires came out, so I have no idea where the wires go, the back of the plate is marked 2,3,4,5,A,B and the 4 wires to use are white, Blue, Red, and Green.

Should i just leave it alone and contact BT or is there anything I can do?

Is the non working phone on an extension lead ?
The cable colours you describe are not standard colours for "proper" telephone cable, they are however used in extension leads and the like.

its not an ext as it has the test socket behind the plate, i assume this means its the main one,

phone and net work fine with it connected to this but im not sure how to wire up the faceplate now, since the wires came out.

Im still baffled why this even happened in the first place as its been fine for years.

That sounds suspiciously like alarm cable.

If you can, check and see if each colour contains a single, thick strand of cable, or if it's multi-stranded.

Solid core is telephone cable, other stuff isn't.

I'm afraid you're rather on your own as the wiring's been bodged, all you can do is open another socket (carefully!) and try to work out what colour goes where.

Worked a treat + phone works now also, not sure what happened but all sorted and it seems i have had a slight increase in my sync compared to what it was before the issue.
