A couple of days ago I experienced an outage of a few hours, and I've noticed that traceroute now produces different results.

I notice that it's handing over from the old tiscali network to the talktalk network after just one hop... this wasn't the case before the outage. Instead there'd be numerous as9105 addresses man, bham, mk and then on to lon. Man later changed to sfd (Salford?). About a year ago and before there used to be a direct link from man to lon, but since then its been taking multiple hops.
Presumably all of this is the old Tiscali network is being gradually dismantled/integrated into the Talktalk network.But why the outage? I assume that was the reason, it could just be coincidence.
