Strange goings on in pipex/toucan routing

New to this forum. I'm an ex-toucan pipex datastream customer. The reason why I still am is I'm in a non-LLU area and require a high bandwidth allowance.
Anyhow...
A couple of days ago I experienced an outage of a few hours, and I've noticed that traceroute now produces different results.

I notice that it's handing over from the old tiscali network to the talktalk network after just one hop... this wasn't the case before the outage. Instead there'd be numerous as9105 addresses man, bham, mk and then on to lon. Man later changed to sfd (Salford?). About a year ago and before there used to be a direct link from man to lon, but since then its been taking multiple hops.
Presumably all of this is the old Tiscali network is being gradually dismantled/integrated into the Talktalk network.But why the outage? I assume that was the reason, it could just be coincidence.

Probably required some physical connections relocating rather than virtual ones as part of the network reconfiguration.

No wonder it had some downtime and the routing has changed... I'm now on IPstream which suggests that they've decided to do away with the datastream network. I wonder if they're planning to abandon this service and migrate us to Talktalk sometime soon like they did with Tiscali customers...
