Can anyone tell me why I have such high latency spikes?

I was on xbox until 3am (Double XP weekend )

This afternoon has been using the laptop on wireless the other devices (Desktop & Xbox) are all hard wired through homeplugs

When there is traffic on your connection it takes longer for each packet to get though. Thus the increase in ping. The busier your line is the higher the ping will be. The spikes will no doubt coincide with when you were using your connection. With only a ~1Mbps line you have little (no) spare capacity so you line in congested easily and the ping increases more significantly than say a line with ~10Mbps available.

There are other reasons for seeing an increase in ping! When the ISP's network in congested or routing changes due to an outage on a shorter (or higher capacity) route.

BTW your ping graph looks normal if you are indeed using your connection at the times the pings have increased.

Thankyou, Just I have seen other peoples graphs and they dont appear to have the markers tht I do.
It has been explained with the poor 1Mb line that I have
