Sorry if this is a silly question but as I have tried and failed to find an answer, hopefully someone can help.
I have just been upgraded to ADSL2+. BT says that I should get 17Mps or so.
Do I have to wait for things to settle down before this is achieved?
Do I need to tweak anything on the modem?

Is your modem/router capable of ADSL2+ (some older ones aren't) What make model is it?
Line One:- Zen - DrayTek Vigor 2600VG
Line Two:- EntaNet - DrayTek Vigor 2600

Belkin Share Wireless-N ADSL2+ F7D3402uk.
If it ain't ADSL2+, someone is going to law!

Post you router stats. See http://kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
Nobody will stop you going to law but I'd lay odds of a thousand to one that you won't gain anything!

|
|
|
Are these the Stats?
212.159.6.10
ADSL
Type Interleave Path
Status Show Time
Downstream Upstream
Data Rate (kbps) 8128 448
Noise Margin (dB) 14.5 26.0
Attenuation (dB) 12.8 7.5
Output power(dbm) 18.0 12.4
As to law, it says ADSL2+ on the box and the invoice. If it isn't then the dealer is in breach of contract.

|
You're still on a fixed 8meg speed by the look of those stats.

NOTE: if the exchange has just has the WBC upgrade, it still needs your actual broadband provider to put through an order to move you to the new hardware at the exchange.

Does your modem allow you to select the mode, e.g. ADSL (g.dmt) or ADSL2+ (g.992.5) or auto? As rockh says you are connected as standard ADSL.

I asked my ISP (Plusnet) to upgrade me to ADSL2+. There was some twoing and froing with BT but eventually Plusnet said " Your regrade order has now completed and your account has been updated".
As I saw no improvement, I made my post to you.

I assume from the comments that either my ISP or BT has to do something to uplift the speed. What needs doing?

Is your modem set to auto or ADSL2+? At the moment it is connecting as standard ADSL.

I assuime you have switched off the router - waited a minute - switched back th router
so the router negoated the new speed ?
sometimes it's the simplest things that can trip you up.

Hi, I have done that but no change.
My ISP says that it is a router problem but I cannot find anyway in the Belkin User manual to adjust the downstream speed. Any ideas?

Yes, answer john2007's 2 Qs, rather than ignore them.
ISP may be saying your router is not setting the correct ADSL Mode.

The upstream side of WBC should improve even if the modem was forced onto ADSL mode, so we have
1. Upgraded, but ISP forced an identical ADSL looking profile on user
2. Exchange upgraded, but users line not migrated - most likely

With respect, I have not ignored John's questions. There appears to be no means of adjusting the settings on the Belkin modem. There is no feature in the Router settings screen which shows whether the modem is connected at ADSL pr ADSL2+ or, indeed anything.

Have you explored the hidden pages your Belkin router may have? http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/belkin_commands.htm

Thanks for the info.
I've tried to access the pages to which you refer but I can't seem to get them up from the normal Belkin setup page. I've asked Belkin Support for help but I'm not holding my breath!

I can't seem to get them up from the normal Belkin setup page As it says, they are not linked from the main web interface.
I think you need to click on those links directly or copy them to your Browser's Address Bar.

Not really relevant, but may be of interest:
I forced my ADSL2+ Be/O2 connection to g.dmt to get
DownStream Connection Speed 3520 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1088 kbps
I then went back to auto (which connects at a capped ADSL2+) to get
DownStream Connection Speed 8188 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1151 kbps
(On my old BT standard ADSL I used to get 8128/448).

It all turned out to be a complete mix-up between BT and Plusnet. Plusnet say that it had placed the order and BT said it had executed it. Turns out that was not so and once the chinese wall between BT and Plusnet was scaled my modem happily accepted the improved signal and at the moment I have 15+ during the learning curve.
Belkin did respond to my question and revealed how to change the modem manually but since BT did its thing, the Auto setting works fine anyhow.
Alls well that ends well but why do we have to jump through hoops to get a simple result?

Good to hear it's sorted. As you say, a pity that mix ups like this are so hard to resolve.

Not going to get any better, service in this country is getting worse. Glad you got it sorted.
