Why has my IP address changed completely?

Since Saturday 16 April my internet speed has dropped from 4.3 to approx 3.2 . I've also noticed that mp IP address is completely differnent from what it has been for the last 4 years at least. It always began 91 now it starts with a 2.

Nothing has changed other than a load of Windows updates!

Orange is your ISP and they have just moved you from Orange LLU to Orange WBC. Didn't anyone warn you that this was happening? There are loads of posts on TBB Forums about it.

I was moved 2 nights ago and all I've noticed is that my Down Sync has gone down about 200 Kbps but my Up Sync has decreased about 33% to 888 Kbps, but I'm waiting for the training period to see how it goes.

These sort of things happen if you do not choose your ISP carefully.

No I wasn't advised that it was happening. I only discovered it when I did a speedtest.

I don't read the forums that often.

We do not know which ISPs were available to the OP at the time.

For all we know, the choice may have been "the best of a bad lot".

No I don't have a static IP address.

The speed has gone back up and is marginally higher than previously at 4.7 (my line was only capable of 4.6 before).

Also I am having to reboot my router almost every evening between 9.30 and 11pm since whatever change happened.

Am I right in thinking I should be getting a much faster speed than before?

It may be worth you speaking to Orange Tech Support as now you are beyond your 10 day 'training' period after moving from LLU to WBC and you shouldn't be having to reboot your router as often as you are. I've only had to reboot mine once since moving over.

WBC should allow you faster download speeds but it may not be a significant jump. Now mine's been sorted (touch wood!) I'm now getting an average 1meg more than I was on LLU but it depends on things like the state of the line between you and the exchange, how far away you are etc.
