Download speed doesnt match sync speed

Hi All,

Ive just had BE broadband installed and after some messing around and disconnecting the bell wire I am finally syncing at a half-decent speed of around 10mbit connecting via ADSL2+

This sync speed should give me roughly 1mbyte/second download speeds... but the most I can get is 800kbyte/sec (~6.6mbit).

Any ideas? Have tried 2 modems, multiple filters, test socket and get the same speed over my wired and wireless networks.

what are you using to test the throughput speedtest sites, test files, p2p ,usenext, filehosts ? What is your routers mtu set to? which product are you on, Value, Unlimited or .Pro ?
If on Value you may be able to get your target snr lowered to 3db, but if on Unlimited or Pro you can do this yourself from the be website once you log in, you can also have Fast path enabled which which give you a higher sync speed but depending on how good the line is it may or may not cause it to become less stable and disconnect

How long had your modem being up when you posted those figures? That number of CRC/HEC errors is quite high for a few minutes of uptime.

Tried a few different speedtest sites and a subscription NNTP server which should max out my connection. I'm using a BEbox (Thomson TG585 v7 8.2.23.0) in bridge mode connected to a openWRT linksys router with a standard ethernet MTU (1500). I havent made any real settings change on the BEbox so the MTU should be the default on that.

Im on the unlimited package and have tried changing the connection profile and although the sync speed increases the overall throughput does not.

Not sure if this amount of HEC/CRC errors is normal after 13hrs.

How long's a piece of string.

I switch my router/modem off overnight. It has now been up for nearly 4 hours and stats are:

You mentioned that you decreased margin and sync rate increased but throughput didn't. That does suggest that the additional errors are slowing your connection.

If you are fairly sure that you have no faulty devices attached to the phone line the best thing to do may be to be stoical. You get decent speeds, within say 20% of perfect speeds for your line.

Perhaps try the BE forum on here?

Do you have anything such as a Sky box connected to the phoneline ?? Do you have any extensions that could be wired into the master socket?#
