Would there be much of a difference in the connection quality if the telephone wiring was 20ft longer?
What I'm getting at is having the master socket upstairs instead of downstairs.
Does your line come to your home from overhead or underground? With an overhead feed and having the NTE5A located upstairs, the wiring could actually be shorter!
