Unable to login to router

I have a Netgear DG834G v5 which I have never used. I wanted to configure it to use a wireless camera but am unable to login to the router.

If I enter http://192.168.0.1to access the router my browser (Firefox) hangs with the message 'Connecting to 192.168.0.1'.

The router is showing the power and wireless lights. The DSL light is flashing as it is not connected to a phone socket as I want to use it stand-alone.

I have tried resetting the router to no avail.

Any thoughts? Is the router possibly faulty? I'm unable to return it as it has been sitting in a cupboard for at least two years.

Is it showing one of the ethernet ports as connected?

Edit: I assumed you've trying to access via a cable connection rather than a wireless one.

Try this...

For DGN2000 / DG834Gv5 Routers

To restore the factory default configuration settings when you do not know the login password or IP address, press both the Wireless button and WPS button on the side of the modem router for 5 seconds.

Have you tried pinging the router to see if it gets a return, or possibly running IP config, in case the default gateway has changed ?

I always access the router through the cable when I want to setup anything as is much easier and I do not have any issue with the key or something else. Try to see if is working by cable.
