Can a modem choose ADSL2 or ADSL, on 21CN?

If I am connected to BT 21CN equipment and my line is configured for ADSL2+, what happens if I set my modem to only use ADSL2 or just ADSL? Would the modem connect at these alternatives?

Given that I have a long line with a > 60 db loss, is there any reason not to request that my line is set to ADSL2+ and then choose what ever option I find works best?

I seem to remember trying one time on my Be/O2 LLU line. It gave me much less sync.

Just tried again.

On BT (Newnet, Virgin) synced at 8128 kbps on ADSL1.

On LLU (O2/Be) synced at 8188 kbps on ADSL2+. (I am rate limited, if I pay extra the sync would be 16 Mbps+)

On LLU (02/Be) synced at 3520 kbps on ADSL1.

I don't know why.

I was trying make sure that I don't shoot myself in the foot if it does not work.

It is quite possible that I will just be given an ADSL connection on 21CN because of the high loss on my line. I just want to be sure that I can easily revert to ADSL if I ask the ISP to enable ADSL2+

I now have a 21CN connection. My Technicolor 582n says it is connected using ADSL2 even though I have tried to force plain ADSL by entering "xdsl config adslmultimode=ADSL" It is quite likely that the ISP has set ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+ because of my 62db downstream line loss.

My connection speed of about 1700kbps is very much the same as it was on 20CN, but I do benefit from the 21CN algorithm for setting the IP profile.
