Suggest you go check the advisory from them, where they remind providers to tick the box on orders

I did get a chance to look at the socket in the lounge over the weekend, unfortunately it does just seem to be an extension so I'll go with the installation in the hall with the temporary cable, have ordered a cable online as well in case the installer isn't able to help on that front.

Thanks to all of you for your help, I'll just have to see how everything goes on Tuesday morning now!

Just to finally close the story on this one, the first installation proved to be an abortive one due to a line fault, but I had a reinstallation date of today and everything went well using the suggested solution from here, so many thanks for all of the helpful comments.

This is relevant to my interests as I've ordered FIbre from Plusnet, but forgot to tick the extension cable option as I'm not sure if I need it.

In my house, just above the front door, I have one of these :

From there cables snake around the house to different phone sockets. Last time I had a BT engineer out, he said he made the socket in my bedroom upstairs at the back of the house (where the router sits) my master socket rather than the original which was downstairs and installed something like one of these:

http://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/BTNTE5ADSLfaceplate6w...

He said this was now my Master socket and that all other sockets do not need a separate filter as this did the job for all of them. I'm not sure if he just ran some sort of wire from the old master socket to the new one (so technically it may just be an extension) because the old socket is still there and useable

Question is, I want the openreach modem and router in the exact place I have it now. Is there anything I need to do, or is it all ok the way it currently is? I only ask because lots of people say the master socket is normally near the front of the house near the door.
