Hi all,
I am living in Spain and as such this question may not be appropriate in this forum, but I would like to know what is involved technically in changing a fixed line number on an existing ADSL line. I am currently with a provider (ya.com now technically orange.es) and have been told to get a better deal with orange.es I will have to change telephone number. I currently have a similar setup to the one I am moving to i.e. 20mb down 1mb up and all calls via VOIP. The line was installed by telefonica (now movistar and effectively the equivalent of BT in the UK.). when I changed to ya as my provider I kept the same number and they activated the adsl line, as far as I recall they did not have to anything within my property and handled to actual transfer remotely.
Orange.es have told me I need to change my number (at cost although the change of number is not important to me as I rarely use it when notifying people of my number I use my mobile number). In order to change the number they are sending out a technical guy to my address to effect the change. Given that I have the requisite line can the change of number can be done remotely? Am I missing something which would require a physical presence at my property to make the change?
