Extension for fibre modem from master socket.

Hi, couldn't decide which forum to go to so stuck it here

I'm going to run an extension from the MK3 faceplate (the internal IDC connectors) to a box 5 or so metres away as the master socket is on the front wall of the house at the furthest possible corner...Want to get the modem/router closer in to the house for a more favourable positioning (which would NOT be a problem if BT still provided the huawei modems and routers that can actually connect to them...stuck with dealing with a home hub 6 or whatever it's called now )

Anyways, firstly would I be better using CAT5e or CW1308 for it? It'll be passing along a wall going through 8 or so power leads although I don't know how much difference that makes.

...Also any idea where to get a decent RJ11 faceplate and back box for it? Not that I intend to mount it to a wall, just want to make it tidy. Although I might have an ancient extension from 2002 that BT gave me when I signed up for ADSL before the self install/micro filter era...don't know if I want to use that though for FTTC since it is pretty old...

Cat5e and if you can get it, just 2 pair.

There are plenty of RJ45 faceplates or modules around however finding someone who stocks RJ11/14/25 6 way version may not be easy. You can use an RJ45 socket as the RJ series are designed such that 6P/xC plug will fit an 8P socket.

I prefer to use Krone original RJ-K series as they are well made and look nice.

Try not to run the Cat5 parallel and close to power cables. Crossing them at right angles is best.

The power cables could present an issue. I would say avoid them wherever possible even if it means the cabling being longer / going a different route.

Unfortunately I have little to no choice with where I can route it...I suppose STP could be an option... Or buying a modem on eBay and getting a cheap tp link router fort it...

Yes, if you want 305 metres! However with delivery that is not really feasible! Try your local electrical wholesalers - some sell cable by the metre. If not you can use 4pair - which is larger in diameter and harder to hide.

Cough 305m may be a tad excessive.
What about the rj11/45 boxes? I've had a look around but can't find owt that looks decent decent

I would use an MK back box, MK modular faceplate and then add a Krone RJ-K outlet and Mounting frame in the 45 degree option. Do a search for Krone RJ-K and you should find a stockist.

Yeah this is a pain, every time I search for 2 pair Cat 5 it gives me CW1308 in the results
Makes me wonder if something like this might be better...hmm...
