Stats the same and no disconnect - yes a good sign you have done it correctly.

Probably is BT cable - they actually own their own cable manufacturer as well as buying in.

Well I mean I don't know if it's BT cable or not since I bought it from run it direct with 3rd party boxes/termination points etc...the official one BT had had an RJ11 on the end, too.

Well....
From the pole to the house is now copper since it recently got changed due to tree damage (went from 2 pair drop to 4 pair and noticed stats decrease on the other phone line which is FTTC enabled...sigh.)

Anyways, I checked the old drop wire and sure enough it's aluminium inside. So now it's pole -> house copper and then a joint box to connect it to the old aluminium drop wire which carries on to the socket.

And before anybody thinks it I'm not getting it confused with the steel strengthening wires

I have read posts on another forum from a BT employee who frequently states that no drop wires from pole to property are aluminium, so it is very unlikely that your incoming connection is that material unless you have an external junction box and your incoming cable is different..

How did you identify it as aluminium? Do you fancy posting some pictures of it?

Look/feel really.
It's silver coloured and very soft, certainly not copper since after several years of doing copper runs for networks including phones I've learned to identify that

Can't get any pics at the moment since I've closed up the socket and people are using it and getting annoyed at me for the net being down :|

Also doubt it's steel since it shows no signs of magnetism that I've observed with copper clad steel and whatnot.
