Hi All,
I have just got hold of a new (locked/factory setting) HG612 that I want to try on my FTTC line, currently with TT but soon to be BT.
My forst job was to try and unlock it and get the web gui going.
I flashed the webgui firmware following the guide on kitz.co.uk.
It all seemed to work and I got access to the web gui but when I started changing configs to suit my needs (I deleted the TR-069 wan interface and enabled LAN port 2 on the other one.
Now I can no longer access the web gui
I have tried re flashing both the webgui firmware and the default (locked) firmware and the flashing process seems to go ok in that I get to the upload screen, select my file and it seems to go through the process as I get the screen telling me it's uploading then the screen says the page is unavailable (presumably where it reboots). From there I can't get to the web gui at all, apart from going back to the firmware upgrade page.
The only thing I notice is that I don't see any light activity on the LAN2 port while this is happening. Is this normal?
I'm connected using a windows 10 laptop, firewall off, static IP of 192.168.1.100 Subnet 255.255.255.0. with nothing else connected.
Have I bricked it? Is there a file I can flash to get back to a default stating point again?
Any help much appreciated.

You may not find anyone here with the necessary experience/expertise. The best place to ask would be Kitz's own forum. Have you tried there?

I have asked on kitz as well, just thought the experts here might have an input. and it might be useful for others.
I have left it over an hour and it still isn't responding, so don't think it's still booting

Are you running Windows Defender and/or other anti-virus?

Cheek! Pfft! Come up with the goods then. I await with baited breath.

Are you connecting direct to it, or through your router?
Have you tried a factory reset? That should set it back to immediately after the first flash you did.
Did you change anything except the TR-069 and enabling LAN2?

I have left it over an hour and it still isn't responding, so don't think it's still booting I have occasionally found mine hang after being flashed. A switch off, and a standard switch on after a 20 second wait comes up as expected.

I'm connected directly to it with nothing else connected i.e power and cat5e to modem, power and cat5e to laptop, wireless off and static IP in laptop.
No I only changed the TR-069 and enabled LAN2.
I have also tried the universal reboot

Why are you expecting to see activity on LAN2?

Which firmware is on there now?

Are you running Windows Defender and/or other anti-virus? I don't think you answered this?

Sorry BatBoy, I missed this question.
Yes I am but have it disabled at the moment.

Should be SP08_webgui assuming the following is working correctly, which it should be as it worked once with the same network settings.
That's what leads me to suspect I have [censored] something in the modem settings as that's the only thing that's different.

Why are you expecting to see activity on LAN2?
Because it's transferring the new firmware via LAN2?

Live CD?

I take it you mean hold reset for 10 seconds? Yes I have done this but can you confirm that it didn't need an internet connection to complete? The instructions on kitz suggest it does.
Also does that reset ALL settings back to default so any changes I made will be charged back?

Live CD?
Just looking for one

Just tried with a Linux boot. Booted from a CD into Linux just set up the wired connection to the modem.
Re flashed the gui firmware just like I did on windows.
Still can't access the web gui when it re boots

Seems that binding both LAN ports to WAN is a bad idea
Someone suggested entering 192.168.1.1 in the DNS settings on the windows laptop...
|
|
|
Think you're right BatBoy, just tried adding the IP address to DNS and tried it in the gateway non of it works.
Think I may have a door stop on my hands

I think it may work with the WAN connected to VDSL, but remove the DNS suggestion

Not sure I understand why but I will give it a go when I get chance.
Shame I was hoping there was a file that I could flash that would set it back to all defaults
Thanks all for the help anyway

The DNS suggestion was only to allow you to access the GUI. It doesn't have a DNS server.
Am I right in thinking you don't have VDSL yet?

Understand that, I think.
I have VDSL with TT at the moment but changing to BT at end of month so I can put it online and try a hard reset. Hopefully I'll give it a go tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Good luck

All OK now.
I put it online, let it sync and made sure I had internet access. Then pressed the reset for 10 seconds (this was not as straightforward as it could be as the button was iffy). It dropped the adsl sync and rebboted and I now have access to the web gui.
Seems odd but as hard reset required internet access.
Thanks all for your input. I'll tread carefully when I start configuring it for my network again

Great news, glad it's up and running
