Hi All,
Is there any way to remove the hyphen in between the number shown on caller ID?
I have a Orchid Keyphone KP416 set up with caller ID. The number is shown when the phone rings, but the hyphen stops the phone from recognising the name of the caller.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jon

I have caller ID on my BT Retail supplied line, and don't see random hyphens added to my incoming callers details ...
maybe the issue is specific to the equipment you mention ?
|
|
|
|
Can't you add hyphens to the callers name in the phone to match the caller id?

We have check the phone system but it's not their issue, we think it may be from our provider (TalkTalk)

unfortunately I can't add spaces or hyphens to match it.

Do you have access to a different unit to borrow and test with, or maybe buy a cheapy, and try that ?

unfortunately I can't add spaces or hyphens to match it. Did it ever work?
Sounds like you need a different one.

I've tried it with a different telephone and we still get the hyphen in the number. I've bypassed the system and plugged it into the BT socket for both telephones and still get the same.

Different, as in a different make ?
OK, so maybe get TT to look into it ...... but I suspect that might be 'fun'.
Please report back when it is resolved, always handy to stash these weird ones away in the corner of ones brain.

Same make just different model, I was sent a different handset from Orchid to find out if it was the handset which had the issues. The same problem occurred.
I have spoken to a member of TalkTalk and the only answer I received was that they can't change it.
I have spoken to the technical team of Orchid and they have suggested this forum to see if anyone else has had this problem.
I don't believe I am the only one who has these keyphones and have TalkTalk, there must be a solution.

This same problem is reported by a Sky phone user at; http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Archived-Discussions/No-... - in a post by Martin6583

Do all incoming calls have this problem?

unfortunately I can't add spaces or hyphens to match it. Why not?

Scroll to NAME and then using the Alpha numeric Dial keys enter the name. If you enter an incorrect character or Digit press the # button. To insert a space press the * button. Press the * button repeatedly for the following punctuation marks and characters: Space , . : ? ! " @ _ -
To Dial, Edit or Delete a Name / Number press TEL-BOOK button, 4 names / numbers will be displayed in Alphabetical order, use the Navigator wheel to scroll to the name/ number required and press to confirm. Scroll to Dial, Edit or Delete as required and press to confirm.

All incoming calls have the hyphen.
I've looked through the instructions and what is mentioned about adding spaces only works for the name, the * key only produces the : symbol when pressed in the number section. Also the : symbol doesn't work when used as a space, I still get the hyphen.

Caffn8me's me post later links to a thread on the Sky forum with a guy reporting exactly the same issue.....
except that they are on Sky and you are on TT ...........
Which would leave only one other piece of kit in common, the Openreach TAMS ties in the exchange.....
The Sky user fixed his by replacing his phone for a different brand.

The seller of the item you linked to is 3 months overdue on their Companies House annual accounts. I would stay away!

I'm guessing that only works when entering the name and not the number as most of those characters would be invalid for a telephone number.

We have TalkTAlk phone line via Utility Warehouse and don't get hyphens on Caller ID.
4 cordless phones in the house. 2 Siemens and 2 Gigaset.
Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

The phone is designed for use with a KS416 system. Not direct to public telephone system
If you look at KS416 the set up appears to be xxx xxx xxxx for interface
May work as phone but, not all functions will work correctly

Sorry, I wasn't intending to advocate that specific sellers wares ...
It was just the first cheap stand alone caller display unit I came across.

Interesting. Googling that led me to this You may find that some handests are not compatable with the TalkTalk service if you are on LLU
|
|
|
Interesting indeed BB ...... but the one Sarah linked to was on Sky.
|
|
|
|
Well Sky are LLU too...
|
|
|
Yep, 'cept different kit in the exchange .... unless it's made by the same folk {shrug}
That was why I'd pondered a TAMS issue, different LLU providers, but that part would be in common.
|
|

LLU operators, like the mobile operators have 'exchanges' but not in the BT 'exchanges'.
Lest we forget that BT switching was based on thinking of a few decades ago and are already beyond their expected life.
I would expect that UK CLI had finer nuances added when BT rolled it out back in the day that the OLOs off the shelf global kit hasn't.

I have an Orchid single line PABX - mainly as a means of boosting REN, however found when I fitted it that my main telephone, a 2-line Delta 700 - with one line connected to my VOIP adapter, the other via the Orchid PABX to our BT line, would not display the BT CLID, but the VOIP CLID was OK.
Apparently this problem was due to my Delta 700 requiring CLID to conform to the BT standard exactly - http://www.sinet.bt.com/sinet/SINs/pdf/227v3p7.pdf whereas some telephones can accept both the BT style CLID and other styles. The choice of CLID that I have with my VOIP adapter Cisco PAP2T is amazing.
I recently looked into REN boosters which do not affect CLID, this was easy when UK telephones were 3-wire, since REN boosters including the BT supplied one simply boosted the ringing capability on wire 3 the Orange with White Band wire. However now that telephones including BT supplied ones invariably just use 2 wires, 2 & 5 the BT REN Booster fails miserably. The only 2 wire REN boosters that I have so far located are from the USA. Again, similarly to the Orchid PABX the "better" one receives and then re-transmits to line the CLID info and since intended for the USA market, would fail to work on the BT system. The more basic one that is available works in a different manner and will according to their product engineer not interfere with CLID of any style. (Boosting REN without upsetting CLID is not rocket science, I designed a unit but declined to build it for use on our telephone line due to BT's obvious dislike of anything not type approved.)
Getting back to the OP's problem, it certainly sounds like a settings issue within Talk Talk.
Cheers!
