ADSL with Unlocked HG612?

Hi: A friend is waiting for FTTC but on ADSL for a few more weeks, he has a unlocked Huawei EchoLife HG612 - He got it for Fibre but wonders if its possible to use it with ADSL. The modem is synching perfectly so I�m wondering if it�s the config with the router. I don't have ADSL so I�m limited to checking anything & he isn�t local.

ADSL is one of the options to tick in the modem config so it seems to work with ADSL. He has it set with PPPoE in his router. It has occurred to me that the router may still be acting as a modem too. Any other ideas please? Is it possible to use ADSL with the EchoLife HG612 at all? As I have no experience with this setup.

What is the HG612 actually connecting to? i.e. router model and what cable and ports are connected together.

Billion BiPAC 7800N - Connected to LAN1. He has had no problems seeing the GUI via LAN2 on modem to a LAN port on the router. Though he has removed that for now. I have mailed him to double check if the Billion BiPAC 7800N has had the Modem within disabled.

Doesn't a patch cable to the wan port bypass the modem automatically?

It's something I'm thinking about trying out with my Plusnet Hub One to determine why it constantly disconnects. I've still got my old OR modem so I thought I might see if connecting with it provides a more stable connection.

you have to add the ATM connection (FTTC is on PTM)

Sorry but I was at work last night. In the end there was information regarding config on a A&A page, he sorted it. Still faster he said than the Billion device. Thanks !
