Gigabit Bearer Leased Line

Hi Everyone,

I've had a 100Mb on a 1000Mb leased line installed for a customer as wires only.
The provider has informed me after installation that the connection is presented as fibre not copper.
Is this commonplace?
I've never been involved with a gigabit bearer before.

Yes, fibre is standard for fast leased lines.

Standard for Openreach EAD circuits - from SIN492 section 4.1 "10BaseT and 100BaseTX interfaces, can use existing 10BaseT, Category5 cabling. 1000BaseLX uses single-mode fibre and 1000BaseSX uses multimodefibre."

It does seem bizzarre that they will only present gigabit circuits optically when there is a perfectly capable copper interface on the NTE.

There may be a copper interface on the NTE but all the distance issues say don't bother trying to get 1Gb ( UP/DOWN) over any copper infrastructure unless you are only meters away. Anything over 100m just leads to issues. Fibre couldn't care about distances under 40 Km and with the correct transponders can go above 200Km..

1G Bearers are usually presented as Single Mode Fibre at the NTE

To use this you will need a pair of Single Mode SFP Modules and a Single Mode patch lead.

If your router does not have an SFP interface you can use a media converter wo get an RJ45 back to your router - I'll link some products below to help you out, if you need more help, feel free to ask. I've used all the parts listed below on Openreach Leased lines in the past with no issues

It looks like I had been looking at the right kit.
From the picture linked below it appears there is already a SFP provided.
