FTTP Installation

In the hope that one day FTTP will be rolled out in the Hawarden exchange area, I guess that since around here the copper service is via overhead drop wires that the same will apply to fibre.

Now, a few months back I had a new dropwire fitted to have the NTE in a different location in our garage. This after I had moved my modem/router and VoIP adapter to the garage from our loft, where the NTE etc was previously located. Far too hot there and likely other problems too.

For the new dropwire, to avoid running close to mains cables, I had fitted 20mm uPVC conduit from where the dropwire entered to the required location of the NTE. This included 4 right angle access curves. The dropwire pushed through easily from bend to bend.

So my question is, would 20mm uPVC conduit be suitable for fibre dropwire (or whatever its proper description is)?

The conduit should be OK, the existing dropwire could be used as a draw cord.

The only possible flaw would be - how tight are the right angle bends you mention ?

The radius of the bend ought to be greater than a fifty pence piece. This will prevent light loss on the bends and make pulling through easier also.

I don't think that the bends would be too tight, since the radius is much greater than that of a 50p piece.

They are 20mm Tower Inspection Bends (Screwfix 70445) which are not as tight as the Inspection Elbow (Screwfix 50679).
