Black wire from outside the house, one random white wire going to a socket on one side of the wall which has never been used and then main white one with the crimps going to my broadband socket which is where my sky broadband plugs into

Open up the master socket and note which colour wire is connected to which terminal (incoming) marked A & B

Once that is known teh rest will be easy!

This is exactly how I said so that confirms the feed incoming is one pair one and that the white cable goes to the master and is connected correctly. Now to make it more permanent connect these in the block terminal with flat screwdriver, there will be like a washer beneath the screw make sure the cable wraps around that in a clockwise direction so when it’s tightened it makes a good connection. If not done correctly it could affect the broadband speeds/quality. Twisting is ok for short term to check it works but I would get some crimps or use the screw terminal.
