EE Fibre Broadband Speeds Below my Minimum

Hey Everyone

Hope someone can help?

I have noticed a degradation of download speed when streaming something on TV and trying to download on another device.

I ran a speed test this morning and only receiving 11.8 download and 3.56, way below the 16.8 that is minimum for my line. Can anyone shed any light on what I need to do?

Just rebooted router. No change in downstream speed but upstream speed increased to 4036

The SNR margin shows that DLM has capped the downstream sync rate , often as a response to a high error rate, or repeated drops in sync.

Ring EE and see what they suggest as the next step.

Yeah I will contact them today.

What would normal cause these issues?

I have had the router connected into the test socket over night to see if that changes anything and these are the updated stats.

What do you guys think? Anything obvious in these numbers/stats?

So how was it all connected before the shift to the NTE test socket ?

The router was connected directly to a slave socket upstairs, this comes directly off the master socket. Unfortunately due to the positioning of the master socket in my porch and power socket, it's not possible to have it in there permanently as plug socket is on one far side of porch and BT socket on other.

However there didn't seem to be much difference in stats once I moved the router onto test socket.

Spoke to EE and they are sending openreach engineer on Tuesday. Couldn't find a fault on line however did mention that there was some electronic interference or electronic signal (can't remember the terminology he used) recorded on the line at their end, was on there for few days so wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Your original set up was producing a fault condition known as a bridge tap.

DLM will have seen this bridge tap, and the errors it produces, and raised the SNR to attempt to stabilise things. This is why your speed has suffered.

Hopefully the Openreach bod can resolve this issue.

Electrical interference... was REIN perhaps the word used ? Extremely unlikely.

Get the bridge tap sorted, get a DLM. reset done. Problem should be fixed.

Could I ask what a bridge tap is and what causes it? In layman's terms lol

Ah sadly can't remember what word he used but basically he said something popped up on the line to say there was electronic interference, apparently it's not there now but hopefully a log of the line the engineer will have access to.
