Any advice for packet loss on fttp? (youfibre)

[link to this post]

Hi, wondering if anyone could offer some advice, after a lifetime on virgin I finally have a fttp supplier in my area (youfibre) and I got installed last week but I have packet loss

Been going around in circles with support and they eventually arranged tech visit next thurs, wondering if anyone can help me identify if the issue is on my end or on their network so I'm not just wasting time

I mainly switched to improve my latency for gaming which is now great.. the latency brings a tear to my eye it's so good, I can ping bbc at 2ms when it was previously 25ms on virgin

But on warzone for example I have a permanent 4% packet loss from start to finish every game which is unplayable, I can replicate the packet loss on packlosstest.com using the warzone preset and I get the same 4% packet loss but I don't drop any packets when running tests on pingplotter so I'm guessing the ISP won't see the packet loss on their end?

If I connect a vpn or use my other virgin line I get 0% packet loss on the test each and every time

I set up BQM for both ipv4 and ipv6.. ignore the red chunks on the ipv4 tests I'd been fiddling around on my own router for testing and I had the same packet loss.. so that rules out any issues with the supplied eero

But you can see the persistent packet loss on the BQMs, there any hope a tech visit will be able to resolve this? And any tips on what I can advise him to check as in my previous experience with virgin techs their not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to latency/packet loss/jitter etc

Are you only seeing packet loss to Warzone, or other servers too?

Worth doing some pings / mtr to 1.1.1.1 / 8.8.8.8 to get an idea of where the problem lies.

Hi, quick question where are you roughly in the country as that will help us give us an idea if another customer is nearby.

Are you using original kit and over Cat 6 direct into the router?
If not please try this to rule out any WiFi issues.

If you have a spare router, set it to DHCP mode, plug it into the ONT ethernet cable and wait around an hour for an IP to be assigned to it. (It takes this long due to the DHCP servers on youfibre's end (in new deployments).

I have run the same packet loss test and get 0.3% packet loss on average peeking at 0.5%, if you run the test for 180 second duration what percentage loss do you get, I get around: 1.6% most loss in on the receiving second test shows 0.9% same as before most loss on receiving.

In my case I know the packet loss is being caused by my firewall as it is not adequate for my service under my load and due to the configuration so do expect some loss under intense testing as there is a large amount of traffic passive over the network as it is.

I am inclined to believe that the larger packet sizes with the low acceptable delay is the cause of the packet loss test figures if we compare to the rocket league test for example I get negative packet loss so am getting more packets than I should which is abnormal.

If you are already over cable, which type of device are you running?

Many Thanks,
RR-THE-IT-GUY
