Quickline Fibre-TPLink Archer GXE75

[link to this post]

Hi everyone, hope someone can help.

I am currently with Quickline 1Gb/1Gb. I changed the ISP issued router (Zyxel EX3301-T0) to the Archer GXE75. I am now unable to connect to the internet even though the ONU is showing two steady and one flashing green (the same as with the old unit).

I have copied over all the details from the old router, even though Quickline support said all I would need was the PPPoE PW/Username, which didn’t work.
I get the usual: Make sure all the cables are working etc but as soon as I try and use the Archer, it says it can’t connect to the internet and to check all cables and hardware. The cables are working as they are fine when running with the Access point, and also I have tried different cables, cate5e cat6e cat8.

If I use the Archer as an access point, with the 2.5G WAN connection connected to the Zyxel LAN port, and the Zyxel WAN port connected to the internet, everything works ok.
Obviously, this is not ideal as I lose most of the functionality of the Archer. I asked Quickline if they could change my PPPoE PW/Username and try that but they refused. All I got from them in the end was, that it should work.

Anyone have any idea on where I can go from here, as it is driving me nuts.

Thank you in advance.
Quickline are the only FTTH provider in my area, so I had no choice of ISP

OK, looks like you have LAN side connectivity on the Archer. And it looks like your have proved the WAN side cable and hardware too.

I think I would double check Username and Password [which I imagine you have done] and just to be random, swap them over. And then I would look at the Connection protocol PPoE and DHCP and mess with those. And then I would look at authentication protocols [MSChap etc] and also at encryption.

And then I would look on google etc to see if the Quickline connection uses vlans or anything like that. And then I would be out of inspiration.

Most likely you need to set a VLAN ID on the connection.

This post (found via internet search) at ISPreview may help.

If a VLAN is needed, does OPs new box support that config on the WAN port?

Yep vlan = 911

Rather poor on the part of Quickline not to state the vlan requirement.

Thanks guys for the quick replies. The issue is now resolved, it was the VLAN setting. I set it to 911 and all is back up and running. Why Quickline are not aware of this I just don't know, inhouse training must be abysmal. Again, thanks for you help, it is very much appreciated.
Aw ra best!

They are aware of the VLAN as they informed us when we had some FTTP from them installed for a corporate environment.

A quick google on 'quickline vlan' reveals this https://quickline.co.uk/knowledge/router-settings/.

Why did quickline put that page up if they are not going to refer users to it? shocked

At a guess, the person on the phone was unaware of it/poorly trained.
