Supanet - poor performance

[link to this post]

Is anyone out there experiencing poor performance on Supanet? Despite paying for an 8mbps connection I rarely get more than 0.5 mbps on an evening or weekend - it's not fit for purpose.

It's not the first time this has happened to me with Supanet. The last time they moved me to a new domain which significantly improved things and resulted in an acceptable >4mbps most of the time. This however degraded over time, then they moved me back to the original domain without telling me, resulting in total loss in service for a few days. Once the connection was restored the performance was rubbish, and it still is. I am being fobbed off with apathetic generic 'traffic issues' that are beyond their control. That's what I was told last time before the move to another domain. I've heard enough. Will be changing supplier soon, never to return.

Sounds like they bought more capacity, moved you to that, and this then filled up.

Some traffic issues are beyond their control, but some are well within their control, knowing when its fluff or truth is hard

Yep, that's what I thought.

The last response I had was this:

After running checks on your line it does appear you are affected by contention on the service during peak hours considered to be 4-2pm Mon-Fri and all day Saturday and Sunday.

We can report a speed issue with our Suppliers however if the checks conclude not a fault wit speed but due to 'traffic' contention you will be charged.

If the speed issue is reported outside the specified peak times we can raise the fault. Please respond if you wish to proceed.

Why I should be threatened with a charge to look into a problem they acknowledge exists is beyond me. I simply want a usable service, as they agreed to provide.
