I moved into a brand new house in May this year (three blocks of 7 terraces) and placed and order for phone and broadband with BT on the 27th of May. I am still waiting for my install - various engineers have been out and I now have a complaint with the CEOs office. But it's going no where - I'm still getting calls once a week to say it'll just be another week, then the next week comes and it's the same story.
The developer had already install all the cabling to the property and (when I spoke to the Openreach Engineer) they have loads of capacity in the cabinet. The older houses around me can get both Virgin Media and BT's Fibre products. Which is what is so frustrating, since I've waited this long and we are not going to get connected to the fibre cabinet. There's also a Virgin cabinet right near my front door but it's a connecting cab
BT tell me the developer didn't do it's job properly, and they need to fix it but they keep a) lying to me on timescales and b) coming to 'fix' things and not actually doing anything. I'm not the only one in the situation - there are 20 other houses having the exact same issues but Openreach does just seem to give a toss. How can this be right that they have a monopoly in the area and still get away with this kind of treatment.
I've been to the local press but that was over a month ago now and it made no difference.
What can I do? I've been without a home internet connection or a phoneline in a village with poor mobile coverage for nearly 4 months now with no end in sight! I could buy a 3G/4G dongle but the signal is terrible on all networks and they are so expensive! I don't want Satellite broadband as the latency is far too poor for gaming, there are no Wi-Fi operators in my area and community broadband is out the window as the entirety of the rest of the village has Virgin or vDSL from Openreach!
I feel like just destroying every Openreach cab in the village - that way something might get done!
