Newbie Alert... NowTV Openreach NowBroadband

[link to this post]

Greetings All,

I have been "on the internet" since before it was invented by ARPANET.

I am 65 and Lessabled, I forget stuff. But I still know enough to be dangerous 😉

BIG PROBLEMS WITH BT, then NOWTV / NOWBROADBAND & CALLS Which suggests that Openreach is the "culprit".

Credit to BT, at least they tried to resilve the issue. And they did port our phone number away from VM for us when other ISPs said it couldn't be done.

NowTV / Now Broadband & Calls have next to Zero Support. All of their online help assumes that my WiFi is at fault. They blame Covid for the lack of support. Sigh. Hey guys, home working is now an option IF you can get reliable, low latency internet to your staff.

I have cat 5e from modem to extender. The only time it failed was when I was too CLOSE to the extender. I guess the radio front end on my 2020 model Samsung tablet computer WiFi was overwhelmed! (Overloaded but my Google Assistant offered overwhelmed as an autocorrect).

I have set up BQM's twice. The modem randomly rebooted. So I had to do it again, because my IPV6 # changed.

Hello! Can anybody hear me? The latency varies with rainfall. IT IS an Openreach issue!

Yes, we have phoned, logged tickets etc. To no avail. All we get are NOWBot replies, except for one occasion when my wife actually spoke to a human, which led to... Another NOWBot reply!

Help!

I can't see where you describe the specific actually problem(s) you are having? Other than something about latency.

Over on the BT user forums there are reports of people with buffering problems on Now TV. Is that your main issue? Maybe worth a look as at least they have BT employees who can pick up on problems that are not being resolved via the normal channels. There was an Youview box software update a couple of months back which seems to have fixed buffering issues for most people. Have you got that? Are you even talking about accessing Now TV on a Youview box? More details needed I think.

(similar age and online experience but totally satisfied BT broadband / NowTV customer)

Have you tried connecting your modem directly to your test socket as shown here https://www.bt.com/help/broadband/fix-a-problem/broa... to eliminate any internal wiring issues? If you haven't, perhaps try this overnight or something to see if it makes any change to the BQM.

To be honest Martin I was confused by your post as it wasn't clear (to me) what the issue is, you have said "The latency varies with rainfall" but thats about it.

There are lots of people on this forum willing to give advise and make suggestions but I think you need to be clearer about the exact issue you have.

Great thinking @derby13 I like the idea of using BT's WCAG compatible website to troubleshoot a NowTV NowBroadband issue! I did know about the test socket, i forgot about it.

I do recall the installation tech needing to extend our old style master socket from the wall of the fri0ont porch, to the far corner of our front room.
I briefly worked as a Trainee Technician Apprentice (TTA) with GPO Telephones. We compared notes on our experiences. Apparently he was not allowed to tuck the cable under the edges of the carpet, as I was trained. Something about Elves and Safe tea ? He did like my wife's Tea.

I have Gmailed that article to my missus / carer, she once changed the alternator in our Ford Focus, (search YouTube, pig of a job) this will be small potatoes in Comparison. She is one in a million.

TL;DR ? Resume here...

I'm not aware of it raining in our front room... Maybe it's indoor temperature related? Turn the CH stat knob to set BB quality? Lol!

Hi @dect , and yes, I do waffle on, just a little, it is one of the requirements for being a licensed Radio Amateur 😂
What was your question? I forget. Hang on, at the risk of losing what I have written so far, I will scroll down, very carefully and look... ... ... Oh right, lack of clarity. Please see the answer I gave, some hours ago:-

Something like : very, very low up / down speed, other speedtests rubbish. TBB BQM shows intermittently [censored] latency / dropouts. Better?

Thank you for your advice, I am lucky that I remembered TBB had a forum, and although searching did not throw up any useful results, and this forum is most certainly NOT chewing gum (WCAG) friendly, I have already found some wonderful, very helpful people here, including yourself.

OT: Do you know of any good fora where DECT technology is discussed? Please PM me, if you do.

If that was what you were shown, then your trainer/buddy was a wrong’un.

That’s NOT the correct thing to do. It wasn’t how I was trained.
