Gigaclear's top end service is quite a fast speed and that cost isn't wholly unreasonable for that. You were on an introductory offer which was to try and get as many people on the network when they roll out as possible.

You can downgrade from what I presume is the 900Mbps package to say 300Mbps which should be £19/month? You might be able to negotiate with them for a discount though if you speak to them.

You can switch to 200Mbps at £40:

After the 18-month minimum term period, the price per month will revert to the list price advertised for existing customers at that point in time. As at today that list price is 200Mbps package at £40 per month, 300Mbps package at £44 per month, 400Mbps package at £49 a month and 900Mbps package at £79 a month.

Presumably you're out of contract now - have you spoken to them about your re-contracting options?

If you had no usable broadband options previously and Gigaclear are the only game in town then it makes sense that they're charging costs proportionate to what they spent to get you connected.

Got to the Gigaclear.com website. Don't login, instead enter your postcode, select your property and see what they offer. The cheapest I could get is £17 pm for 200Mbps .

Hi Kim

This is normal, your 18 month contract with Gigaclear has come to an end and the price has increased massively, you simply need to contact Gigaclear and re-contract for another 18 months and the price should come down again, may be not to the introductory prices they sometimes offer but not as high as you're currently now paying. If price is an major issue you can also look at reducing the package speed which should also help.

This isn't unique to Gigaclear, all major ISP's across the UK do it, this includes BT and Sky.

Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Kim,

Long time no speak!

I was one of the early adopters of Gigaclear in Dunmow and my introductory price was £34 p/m, going up to £52 (?) after 18 months.

Shortly before it expired, I'd contacted them to say that if they came back with a renewal price of £52 p/m, I'd be saying goodbye - much as I like Gigaclear, I'm not willing to pay that much per month!

I then had the 'official' call from them, and was offered a renewal price of £39, i.e. a £5 increase.

It's still a lot of money compared with someone just taking up a contract with them, but I'm willing to put up with it.

I suspect that I'm not the only one who feels they're being ripped off for being a 'loyal' customer, and I'm really surprised that Gigaclear don't just increase the speed they give me. I'm on the 300 service, so if they put me on the 400 one, I'd be happy!

You may want to check if there are in-contract prices rises as that will affect the overall contract cost for the 18 month period.

THANKS ALL for your help.
I phoned them and they dropped the £47 to £30 and were quite pleasant to deal with.
They said their fibre was "open ______ " (might have been source) and that other companies could use their fiber but chose not to...

Again thanks
Kim
