I have recently signed up with VM, after leaving UKO 8mb. I used my connection for the first time this last weekend, and all speed tests I have conducted came back between 500-600kb, not very good for a upto 20mb service!
I called the tech desk (25p per minute) last night, he did a few tests at his end & said everything was reporting fine. He asked me to unplug modem, restart my pc etc. and then asked me to go to ****soft.com & download a file from there to check speed, it was the same speed. After about 15-20 mins (ouch) he suddenly found a report that there was a current known fault on 20mb XL users getting very slow DL speeds (my upload is fine, faster than my DL), yet I haven't seen a single post on this forum about it.
Anyone else suffering this?
Thanks

Welcome to the great Virgin fob off mate! And you now have to pay for the privilege of ringing up to be told how bad the service is!!!!
I'm in the same boat, so are many many other people. Take a looksie at cablehell or digitalspy cable forums, you will see hundreds of posts all saying the same and VM aren't interested. Personally, I've given them till 5 o clock today to get a 2nd line support agent to call be back or I'm cancelling the lot.
It's just a ride....

Wow.
I was told to give it until next Monday evening to see if the fault is resolved. I'll do that & if the 'fault' is still present, and I get no satisfactory explanation or ETA of resolution, I may well be cancelling myself. I have left a rock steady connection for the lure of the 20mb. <naive>

If I were you I'd also insist on a refund on your phone call to tech support which must have come to about 5 quid. The fault is their end, you shouldn't have to foot their bill. And to think I just signed up with VM, lol....

You what?! You might just want to read previous posts and use the search function at the top and find posts before you make that statement. There have been numerous posts made about the slow download speed on the 20mb service AND a website which gives geographical numbers to ring Customer Service so you didn't have to use the one that costs 25p/min.
You may also like to look at the Virgin Media service status on their website. HERE is the link to the specific problem on the service page.
And to show you that posts have been made on this forum about it HERE.

I hadn't seen another post, that isn't the same as me saying there isn't another post.
I see you had a whinge on that thread as well, about people asking repetitive questions. Your whinge added to the pointless post by the way. You aren't forced to reply to anyone.

No one said I was. It's not a whinge it's just pointing out the search feature that can be used to find answers instead of asked the same thing. I would say it did contribute to the post as well since it will eventually stop people asking the same things.
Anyway, lets hope the problems with the 20mb service are sorted.

You should have read the forums before changing.
May i ask why on earth you really need a 20mb connection for anyway? Seems you doanload alot of material, illigally i imagine.
If you really think that Virgin are going to give you a 20mb service then your very much mistaken. I dont mean to be brutal, but trying some readup of the service status on the VM website would have laid out a number of issues VM have.
Also do you really think they would make a 25p price tag if no one called? Its quite obvious they are out to profit from they own shocking service which is incredible.
If my business had only a 75% customer satisfaction then id be sitting as a homeless man with no business what so ever.
You paying cash to Mr Branson who, if you have read his book, is a complete compulsive liar.
Ok ive had my rant, get out if you can, or stay away from these crooks.

512k? Thats BLISTERING FAST mate...well at least compared to the 90kbps (yup that k not K) Im getting for my 37 quid per month XL package.
Seriously under Telewest I LOVED my broadband connection - it was rock solid. For the last few months under Virgin though its been the biggest piece of **** Ive used. As someone else advised, if you can get out. Now.
BlueYonder 3MB broadband.
Telewest broadband - actually quite impressive...
