Switching IP address

Just wondering if it is possible/how its done with VM

A few things you can do:

- Unplug the modem for 24+ hours.
- Change NICs (Network cards)
- Change the MAC address of your previous NIC
- Change the MAC address of your router

That's all I've come across.

Or if you have a Netgear router go into that and go to "Router status" and I think off memory you then go to "Connection Status", click renew and you'll have a new IP address.

danm sounds great only problem I got a Belkin...wonder if theres a dhcp command in telnet for the same effectt

You're correct, at least for me it is.

ISP's these days assign IP addresses with DHCP but they always static in effect. No matter how many times you switch off the router, as soon as you go back online, the IP address will be the same. This is because radius server will always pull the information from database where your IP address is registered against your name. This gives ISP's the flexibility to move around IP pools without having to commit them to certain pool of products or services.

Nope works for me. I always get a different IP address when renewing. Strange though if it doesn't work for anyone else?

Ahh in that case your account is specifically set up to have dynamic IP, I think I totally misunderstood what the thread was about. If your account is set to have dynamic IP address then you will probably get a different IP address each time you reconnect. The dynamic pool has to be declared to RIPE if it is a public IP address being assigned to end user. However even with static IP addresses, they are registered with RIPE as dynamic pools, but ISP assign them to end user in a static way using radius.

I had the same address for 10 months, then it suddenly changed after a reboot.
