Wireless issue again !

[link to this post]

ok i have recently joing VM and have had a few issues setting up my wireless conncetion these were resovled (earlier posts)

i now have a issue that my routher keeps needed to be rebooted ?

i had this issue a few years ago an update of the firemware solved this, but i have done this on my Netgear WGT624 V3 and am still having problems - its seems it cant hold the connection for more then 10 mins somtimes

i rang up vm and they said its not there line problem as if you hardwire the connection it will be fine - i told them that i did not have this issue b4 i joined vm so it must be sothing to do with that - he just told me the same thing that its nothte service -

i cant understnad what the issue can be - i have 2 pc's and 3 laptops that require the connection so a wired connection is not an option

any help guys ?

I've been having issues with this. I've been a Virgin Media / NTL customer for around five years now and the past 6 months have been the least reliable yet.

I have a Belkin Wireless G Router (Model: F5D7230-4) and a ntl:home 120 broadband modem and my connection keeps dropping - sometimes at the router (which possibly isn't the ISP's fault), but mostly at the modem.

I checked the Virgin Media website where they acknowledge a problem between my router model and the ISP - but the Belkin website says the update is only to be applied to version 7 of the router, where mine is not.

The connection is fine for general use but tends to cut off when I try to download anything like movie trailers, video podcasts, using bittorrent or upload large files. As soon as I start any of these processes, within about 30 seconds my connection will be cut off and I'll have to wait another 5-10 mins before I can use my internet again.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread; but if anyone has a solution for me either, it would be most appreciated. My friend (who lives local to me and is having similar problems) suggested that Virgin are starting to traffic shape; but surely this would just make my connection slower as opposed to knocking it offline completely?

Sounds to me like you're saturating your pc's half-open ports.

Try out the test shown here: "What are "half open ports" in Windows xp pro sp 2 and how to increase them?"

Lots more tips that may help improve your BitTorrent:speeds: "Optimize Your BitTorrent Download Speed"

Let us know if anything works?

Hi

i made the changes and it did speed up my p2p stuff so thanks for that

but dint solve the router cut out issue - it did seem to last longer between drop outs but i still had to reboot the router a few times,

its quite frustrating as the router is not on the same floor as where i am, and i did not have the same problem when i was with Nildram using a D Link adsl router
