I couldn't figure out why I was getting zero downloads from news.blueyonder.co.uk until I read this message on blueyonder newsgroups, I wonder if they have really improved the retention ?

I have noticed they are having a few troubles. I normally have 10 connections through them but i'm now down to 4 as the others are getting too many connection error messages.

Only use them for 0day stuff anyway, i use giganews for the bulk.

I'm running 10 connections with no problems, next thing I want to try is downloading posts that are over 3 days old. That was about the maximum retention on the blueyonder servers. I hope it's longer on virgin media servers

No a couple of days at most for binaries if your lucky.

I use Virgin / Blueyonder servers if what i want is only a day or 2 old the giganews for anything over this.

for anything over 2-3 day old I use a fill server, currently paying approx a fiver for 30 GBytes download service at a time, works out cheaper for me than paying a monthly subscription.

really good news to virgin media usenet users the new news.virginmedia.com server has the EXACT same ip has eu.usenet-news.net usenet-news.net are a reseller of highwinds-media usenet servers. basicly all virgin media customers now have free access to highwinds-media usenet servers thats an 100 day retention high speed server.

I've used Usenet-News for my fils for ages but hadn't noticed that the VM newsserver was now pointing to the same place.

I'd agree that Highwinds are a very reliable source!

This is the BEST news, I reckon you've just saved me around �80 per year in news service fees. Props to blackmesa8 for the heads-up !!!
