Has something happened?

Just got 18Mb/s over wireless in upstairs room quite far from router. Tried again, 17.5Mb/s. Never ever got above about 8 in the past (not done a test for several weeks). Has something changed?

My connection has been slow for the last few days. However, this afternoon it seems to have been quicker loading pages and seems snapier. I'm on the 20mb service also. Where abouts int he country are you? I'm from the Southampton area.

Though depsite getting 19mb on speed tests the stream from Channel Five still keeps breaking up. Can anyone play this file without it breaking up every few seconds..

http://demand.five.tv/Episode.aspx?episodeBaseName=C5140160007

The advert at the beginning works fine and then as soon as the programme starts the problems begin.

I've tried it on a different computer connected with cables and the problem is still there.

What version do you have? I'm on Vista and have the latest version possible. Don't supose you still have the link for the update just in case it wasn't a full software update but something smaller instead.

No, sorry. I just got a message to say that WMP needed to download some extra software to play the clip. To be honest, I usually use Real Player and my WMP is quite ancient, so I don't suppose that's your problem.

Maybe one of your neighbours has a wireless router set to use the same channels as yours, and the speed improvement you're seeing is simply because they've turned theirs off?

This is what I get from my wireless:

Results from http://www.speed.io
(Copied on 2008-12-06 11:44:58)
Download: 18949 Kbit/s
Upload : 538 kbit/s
Connects : 2153 conn/min
Ping: 22 ms

THis is also with a VOIP call going from one of the other computers which explains the low upload speed and the lower amount of connections per minute.

Still - vast improvement from the last few days where I was only getting 2mb on that speed test. Something has definitely changed with the Virgin Network because surfing is also seeming better.
