Judging by some of your recent posts then it isn't worth the hassle. Poor speed, dodgy wirless boxes. Then there is the dreaded STM. I know there is no such thing on the 50Mb offering and you previously managed to download off peak but as a previous poster said "Use the internet when I want to use it".

I'm just about to give 30 days notice on my VM 2Mb product. Will then save £4.50/month or £15 after the yealy discount is up.
Absolutely no complaints about O2 standard. Fairly constant 5.8 down and 1.1 up unlimited, no throttling and all for £10/month. Inclusive of 300 texts.

You pays your money and you takes your choice!

I've been more than happy with the offereing from VM, much better than anything ADSL can provide in this area, and only minute slow downs.... 10% loss of throughput is about the worst I've ever had and that's not common for me.

It's better to get an opinion of the people in your immediate area - I have a lot of co-workers on VM, and some on 50Mb and they all swear by it (not at it!) but the next area from us maybe pants.

I maybe one person but read around and you will find a large portion of comments made recently since the continued expansion of throttling and you will find that anyone that uses the connection a reasonable amount will be now be complaining.

I used to use ADSL24 and they were very good. The support was great (even though like you say they are dependent on other people to actually resolve issues) When I moved out from my parents place I recommended they stay with them and they have and their connection remain rock solid now for about 2 years. Highly recommend those guys. Virgin on the other hand are so far the other way its quite scarey.

I download between 150-250GB per month and I've exceeded the STM limits twice in the last six months, both times because I was too impatient to wait a few hours.
Although the throttling is an inconvenience, it's no real problem to schedule downloads to less busy times of the day.

Why bother with the phone from Virgin? It's not cheaper than BT, and has the disadvantage of not allowing third-party services for cheaper phone calls. I'd personally get a TV and Internet deal (although I wouldn't rate the basic TV service either, Freeview already has too much on for me to watch or even record and the money could go towards a PVR box instead). Why bother with 20Mb or 50Mb? That's just playing into VM's hands. I can't manage to max-out my 10Mb connection (when it's even working at full speed or working at all), so what use is a traffic-managed 20Mb one? 50Mb is too costly for something that cannot be properly used (I beg to be corrected).

I get my calls to France etc from another service without any problems - just the hassle of having to input another code - but that's worth it

The service is reliable I will concede that, it rarely fails. Dont expect what is sold to you though. They dont have the capability to provide what they claim to, not for me anyway. Would I recommend, Mmmmmmm kind of No.
