Upload

[link to this post]

Yep.. upload again!

Is it not about time VM gave us more upload?!

I would of thought 1mb on 20mb would of been best or even 2mb.. same goes for 50mb. 1.7mb upload is just silly for the speed. 4/5mb would be better.

So what do we think the chances of VM giving more upload are? I reckon very very low

Your absalutely right. Verizon FioS delivers Delivers multi megabit upload with its cables. But I do kind of see where virgin are coming from, they may be cautious of offerinh high uploads in fear of illegal software and movies being uploaded.

The FiOS name stands for Fibre Optic Service wink

A better comparison would be things like Optimum Online Comcast UPC or Comhem for example, all of which are cable ISPs.

Why don't Virgin offer better upload? They have never been interested in offering better upload so in some areas their 'fibre optic' network can't handle it without a bit of work. Upload just isn't as cool as high download speeds. If you notice 50Mbit customers your upstreams are still DOCSIS 1.1, so you have DOCSIS 3 downstream but not even DOCSIS 2 upstream.

May be so but surely they can at least give us a bit more upload.

Download speed may be "cool" but more upload would be very helpful indeed.

Im trying to run a Teamspeak server and a small counter strike server off a 768k upload and its hard. the CS server can barely manage 10 players on it let alone the 16 max id like to be able to take.

Virgin give us whatever makes nice ads / PR, or what they think we want. Upload is neither of those so we'll get it when they feel like giving it to us

But is it not clear to them and there are people out there who want the faster upload?

Cant they bring in a new package with more upload

Evidently not else they'd have already done so.

Cant they bring in a new package with more upload

Even though, some areas CAN get more upload, and all areas SHOULD be getting more upload. As it stands, my copper wire is out doing people on cable connections. Also note, american ISPs work very differently with customized infastructure and availability more so limited to the UK. Optimum onlines headline speeds seems very patchy mostly limited to the NewYork area.

Given that Optimum Online only serve the NY / NJ area pretty much that isn't surprising. I am not sure what you mean regarding customised infrastructure, etc. It's a similar manner to here, not everywhere has Virgin cable and some areas still don't have 50Mbit. Optimum / Cablevision have 101Mbit available to all homes on their network, Comcast are deploying 50Mbit to all homes on their footprint.

I totally agree that Virgin can and should do better, but as it is they don't care.
